Lamalo is a fun spot for Mediterranean plates, especially if you're going with a group & planning to share. The dips are a meal in itself, but there's lots of other delicious dishes to add (my personal favorite is the lamb kebab). The only thing that keeps Lamalo from being a 5 star experience for me is the ambiance. They have an upstairs floor that is lively & fun, but the downstairs floor seating area is a little meh & feels like an afterthought for overflow seating. I've eaten in both areas, and I found my experience upstairs to be much better.
Lamalo is outright incredible. Located in a prime location inside the beautiful Arlo Hotel, the atmosphere is stunning from the moment you walk in! Come for the dips (which are some of the best I've ever had including the roasted cauliflower and Tershi), and stay for the cocktails and entrees. Every single bite at lamalo was special, and the all 3 desserts also blew me away. The staff are warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, and I recommend this place super highly for any occasion! I will be back again very soon.
Amazing solo dining experience. Flew into NYC today and my hotel had this awesome hidden gem of a restaurant at the lobby level. I came around 30 minutes after their dining hours and was sat immediately. I was the first diner there! My waitress was nice and welcoming to recommend her favorites and explain the structure of their menu. It's basically an all you can eat bread and spreads if you opt in or try some bread with spreads and meat skewers. The dining experience was so classy, with excellent wait staff and timely delivery of dishes for a seamless food journey. I got 3 spreads: tahini, baba ganoush, and spinach and artichoke. The bread itself was heavenly, so fluffy, crispy right from the heaven, with subtle taste of oil with each bite. Easy to tear, spread and dip into the spreads. All of them were good, but the tahini and spinach and artichoke were my favorites with being creamy in texture and savory in taste. I also ordered a chicken thigh skewer that was presented beautifully, easy to cut, and amazing in texture. Their rice was so flavorful and a light crisp. This was a worthwhile dining experience and taste into middle eastern cuisine at NYC! Splendid!
Wow, wow, and wow. This place is a hidden gem!! Have to do the all you can eat dips and then I got the all you can eat dips + 2 skewers. The scallops and octopus skewers were sooo good. Loved that our server recommended them. They were grilled PERFECTLY and divine. The dips were tasty too - loved the spinach artichoke, hummus, and eggplant dips the most. I cant tell you how great the service was. She was extremely attentive and kind. The ambiance is low lit with lots of space for a group. I highly recommend for a family dinner, birthday, etc. I'll definitely be back!
The 4 of us got a bunch of things to try. The Jerusalem Laffa came piping hot (both times) and it was this thin bread that had the everything bagel seasoning on top. This is a must for sure and I'd like to try the Jerusalem bagel as well next time. Some other highlights were the chicken thigh (juicy and seasoned well), sabich (fried eggplant in pita that comes with this tahini sauce), and the lox (which comes with yogurt). The Syrian cheese and cauliflower/potato were fine but not necessarily must-dos.
Love the concept of a AYCE dips and pita restaurant! For $42 you can eat to your hearts desires with as much refill as you want. There's also sides and skewers to order too. The vibe of the restaurant is cool. It's hidden inside a hotel type spot but it expands to a large dining room with big chandeliers. There were 13 different dips and each was really unique but I love anything eggplant based so the baba ganoush was my personal favorite. The tahini is a close second!!! The dips can also be ordered a la cart. You can also add skewers and grains as additions if you want more food. As a meat lover I added some meat skewers, liked the lamb Kebab. Really fun ambience and would recommend! It's a super fun and interactive restaurant. For more nyc food recommendations, check out my Instagram: alice.likes.food
We came in looking for something different and were not disappointed. Because we were splurging for the day, went for the Lomalo Spread - spreads and breads + skewer and side. My girlfriend had the salmon skewer and mejadara while I went for the lamb kofta and basmati. First, the breads and spreads. If you go with the Lomalo spread, you get all 13 spreads (unlimited) and warm bread. We enjoyed all of the spreads except for the pickled ones - we tried them, and they are not bad - we just don't have the taste for pickled stuff very often. The hummus, Turkish salad, skordalia, babaganoush, and spinach and artichoke were our favorites. The bread is insanely good. I loved the lamb skewer, and the basmati was nicely seasoned and paired with toasted pine nuts - an unexpectedly delightful pairing. My girlfriend enjoyed the salmon but was not blown away by it - she and I did, however, like the mejadara very much. Now, the price. We spent way too much, but armed with what we learned about the food here, we could probably have put together a much more reasonably priced meal if we were to return. New York City has too many restaurants for us to guarantee a return here, but I enjoyed the experience a great deal - wonderful service and atmosphere.
Do yourself a favor and go here. Just wow, one of the best eats of the year so far. BREADS / SPREADS / SKEWER Got the LAMALO SPREAD which includes the unlimited breads and spreads and adds a side with a skewer. I will say that you most likely don't need to get this, and the unlimited breads and spreads is enough to satisfy your taste buds and stomach immensely. First of all, every item was a hit. A HIT! Each of the little spreads was so delicious, and packed a huge punch of flavor that I was not expecting. Everything from the pickled beets, hummus, labneh - so amazing. I would have done just fine with the breads and spreads since it was so delicious and I wish I had more room to fully take advantage of the unlimited aspect. The skewer though was delicious - got the chicken thigh which had a good falvorful heat to it that didn't linger, and the fava beans which just tasted like refried beans but stepped up and like everything here DELICIOUS. The bread is FRESH, HOT, and oh soooooooo satisfyingly chewy. DESSERT - everything was solid but our fave was the chocoalte coffee creme brulee DRINKS The drinks here are delicious, too - get the one with cucumber, lime and mint for a strong drink that doesn't taste too boozy (and also kind of sneaks up on you)
Had such a solid dinner here with friends!!! Service was awesome throughout the night even though we tend to drink a lot of water and asked for refills on lots of dips. For $35, you can get unlimited flatbread and dips, which is so worth. The hummus was incredible and I loved the citrusy salad as a palate cleanser. My boyfriend got the $65 option for 2 skewers and I got the $35 option for just the flatbread and dips and took one of his skewers (saved us $10 vs. both of us doing the $55 version). I wish we had ordered more meat but the flatbread and spreads had us bursting out of our pants at the end of the night. I would definitely recommend trying out this place!
The food was so good, the different mezze options have so much flavor, we loved the hummus, potatoe garlic dip, babbganoush and the bread, my god it's heaven. We also shared the salmon and steak skewers, all so good with lentils and rice, again a lot of flavors. The Restaurant is a hidden gem in a hotel but so worth it. I am looking forward to coming back with my friends and family. Also the service is the best, I noted it was my sisters birthday in the reservation and they took note, it's so nice when a restaurant goes above and beyond, they bought out chocolate mouse with a candle on it.
